Topic V examines the sustainability of land use in Chile – especially in relation to the forestry sector. The forestry industry in Chile is one of the most important economic sectors and at the same time triggers numerous negative environmental and social impacts. Many of these impacts are

mediated through the spatial dimension of forest plantations. Plantations have spread rapidly in space, encompassing large spatial scales, increasingly approximating other land use systems and generating a monofunctionality of land use.
